LDN - Luminis Developer Network

Hey everyone, in order for the Luminis Portlet Development PreConference session at Summit 2012 to make we need a few more interested folks to sign up for the training. I think there is only a week or so left before they start making decisions to keep the precon sessions going or not. So, if you want in please sign up quickly.

At Summit 2008 I am currently scheduled to teach the Pre-Conference session for GCF so if you have thought about taking the class but either didn't want to travel to Salt Lake City or didn't want to bring in someone to your school then please sign up for the PreCon session at Summit especially if you already plan to go.

Just wanted to note that I have started work with SunGard Higher Education. I was in need of moving to Houston, TX and started looking for a position a couple of months ago. Shortly after posting my resume to a few online places I received a call from a recruiting company asking if I would be interested in working for SGHE. The long of the short of it is that I've joined the Integration Services team and look forward to getting more involved with the future plans that SGHE has for the portal, Banner, and all the Universities.

The first modification I've made to our test Luminis III.3 install is to allow Firefox brosers to pass the browser check script. By passing this script users that have firefox will no longer be presented with the "supported browsers warning page" telling the user that Firefox is not a supported browser and they should use some other browser.

Answer ID: 1032 on the Luminis Support Center is a resolution for this problem for Luminis III.2 but our version has some different content in the files referrenced in this answer document. This answer document treats Firefox as just another version of Mozilla (which arguably it is) but its also different in that it is only a browser yadayada...

I supposed this will be as good a place as any to keep track of mods I make to our Luminis system. From here i can compose my thoughts before writing a formal change document to publish for the benefit of my coworkers and my replacement if that ever becomes necessary.

I plan to keep all these posts Luminis related and will try to be as verbose as possible but keeping in mind security issues with giving out too much information. :)

So far, I've made about 3 mods to the system:

1. allow firefox broswer to connect to site without prompting that it is an unsupported browser,
2. add web server admin link to Luminis admin popup,
3. created channel that consumes news feed from our public web site.

In the upcoming posts I will detail the changes I made.
