Greetings All!
I am new here at the LDN, but plan to be an avid contributor. I guess I am an extreme newbie. This post is mainly an introduction, but I had a question as well. Our institution is implementing Luminis IV on Linux and have heard mixed reports of it's stability. Is there anyone out there running the beta that I could speak with? Thanks in advance!

Luminis IV on Linux
Hi Bill,
We too are newbies to Luminis. Our institution is planning on implementing Luminis IV on Red Hat Linux AS4. If you get any feedback about the stability issues, we'd also be interested.
Our target date to get a "proof of concept" up and running is mid-June this year. We are targeted to have something rolled out live by the Fall.....

Luminis IV on Linux
We're also implementing right now and are debating between Windows 2003 and Red Hat Linux AS4. I would prefer to use Linux, but I'm comfortable using Windows if no one's having a good experience with Linux. Unfortunately, it looks like not too many people are using Linux right now.
I'm also wondering, are there any memory issues with Windows? Do you have to do daily restarts?
Thanks,
James
AS4 Not Supported...
We are going with Red Hat Linux AS3, as support has told us AS4 is not yet certified on the JES stack. We'd prefer, AS4 or AS5... but we need to remain supported...
Luminis IV on Linux AS3
Thank you all for the comments. We have a test install scheduled for 4/16, so I will let you know how it goes then. I always think Linux is a better choice, but we will see how it interacts with Luminis IV. To anyone considering IV on RHAS3 please be advised that you must have banner 7.4 installed and Red Hat AS 3.8 as Red Hat ES 3.x is not supported. Thanks again!
Banner 7.4
Pardon me if I've had my head in the sand on this one, but can you clarify how Luminis IV on RHAS3 is dependent upon Banner 7.4? Are you referring to to just a general dependency between Luminis IV requiring Banner 7.4 for LDI integration or is there something specific with the environment of Luminis IV / Banner 7.4 / and RHAS 3?
Sorry for phrasing that
Sorry for phrasing that incorrectly. The Banner General 7.4.1 upgrade is not required for Luminis IV, but is required for Banner integration on Luminis IV. This is mentioned in pg 41 of the Luminis IV release notes. We currently have 7.3 installed and were caught by surprise on this one. Also, this appears independent of the operating system installed. Sorry again for any confusion and thank you for catching that!
FYI re: Windows vs. Linux
Just an FYI... we're running Luminis 3.3.1 in Windows.
The entire thing runs in cygwin shells...some of which have to remain open and minimized (LDI events, for example) in order to stay running.
Given the hindsight that we now have, we should really have chosen Linux/UNIX to run this. The Windows implementation amounts to running UNIX software in an emulator on Windows.
We're planning to switch to Linux for Luminis IV.
re: FYI re: Windows vs. Linux
In the LUM101 Admin training for Luminis IV, the instructor said that some components, particularly command line tools, are shell scripts that need a bash shell to run, hence the need for cygwin when installed on Windows. He said that most of the system doesn't require cygwin to run.
This may be a change from III; we're going to be starting up with IV so that's about all I know so far.

Luminis IV & RHEL AS3
Like other schools we would have preferred the more recent RHEL AS4, but we'll be implementing RHEL AS3 because it is the supported platform.
