Mapping your UDC - what do you use?

We've been using Luminis for over 4 years now, and Banner for about 8, I think. Over that time, we've integrated numerous other applications with both of these. Some applications are from SunGardHE, some are from other vendors, and some are applications that we've created in house. I'm looking for a good way to map these relationships (SSO, data transfers, ...) in a graphical way (for management and new IT employees) and also also in a searchable way (e.g., what are all of the processes that we need to test when we migrate the housing/dorm app to a new server, or upgrade an application's database) .

I think this type of information could be stored in configuration management database (CMDB), or something like it. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but we use a spreadsheet and a couple Wikis, I know there has to be something better. What do you use?

You're certainly not alone in this! I suspect that most schools are in the same situation, including us. We spend a lot of time developing applications and channels, and not enough time doing housekeeping. Sorry I don't have a solution for you - anyone else ahead of the game?

A spreadsheet and Visio...

I certainly can't say I'm a great documenter... but we are now documenting our architecture using a Spreadsheet and Visio.
