Blackboard Tests & CPIP Potential Issues

Hello -

I'm not sure if anyone has faced or seen this problem before but we have created our connector via the resources from this site and have been able to login to Blackboard through Luminis.

Once connected to Blackboard, the user will see the courses they are in. Sometimes when clicking on a course the message "access denied will show in place of the announcements page which is the default entry page upon entering a course. However if that happened, you could still access any other resource from the content tabs and even click on the announcement tab and then it would show.

So that's one tidbit. The other seems to be from some students taking a test. If they either try to save a question or even submit the test, they would get errors like the following:

An error occurred. Contact the System Administrator.
For reference, the Error ID is 4a350d0d-9410-4563-8b2f-872051aa942a.

Looking in the log file for blackboard, this would reference a huge java dump and have the following reference:

Root cause of ServletException:
blackboard.platform.security.authentication.BbSecurityException:

This would seem as if there session was dropped or lost somehow, but you can click to another location in blackboard and not be logged out. I would assume if your session was lost as we have found that it would take you to the main blackboard login page.

So I'm confused with this and if anyone has any thoughts or suggesstions that would be great. My assumption of the CPIP is that it creates your session and once in to Blackboard, Blackboard uses that session as it would if you logged in via blackboards main login page.

Our setup is Luminis 3.3 and Blackboard 7.3.159 - both run on Windows systems. We also have 5 blackboard front ends load balanced.

Thank you for any help

Blackboard issues

Hi,
Just wondering if you get these issues only when you SSO to BB through Luminis and not when you log on to BB directly. Which version of the GCF connector(from the resources available here) are you using for your load-balanced set up ? We currently have a single BB server (version 7.3) but will be switching to a load balanced set-up soon. We get the "Access Denied" message on BB sometimes (seems to be a BB 7.3 specific issue?) but have not heard of any issues with tests.

Have you resolved any of the BB issues?

Thanks,
Shyam

Similar problem

I am getting the same 'Access denied' error when accessing the WEBCT course tool from Luminis. Since this issue is quite old, I wonder if someone found the solution.

The error messge in webct.log is as below.
