Banner Extracts for Blackboard and LDI Events

Greetings All,
We are in the middle of implementing Banner/Luminis/Blackboard data integration. We are planning on creating the initial data load from the ICGORLDI LDIS Extract and keeping information synced in Blackboard with LDI events (GOREQNM).

I have a couple questions:

1.) Has anyone had problems with the xml extracts? Import into Blackboard?
2.) Has anyone been able to modify the extract or the LDI Events to include additional data?

If you have been able to accomplish this I would love to discuss the particulars with you. We are trying to compile as much information on this subject and would appreciate any help.

Versions

What version of Banner, Luminis and Blackboard? There are indeed issues with specific versions, related to each other. Blackboard and Sungard both point the finger at each other on this.

Greetings Todd and thank you for your response. We are running Luminis IV.0.17, Blackboard 6.3 (migrating to 7.3 in Dec) and Banner 7.4. I can provide module version upon request. Ultimately, we are looking at creating an initial xml file to upload to Blackboard and then use LDI to process events. Any information or experience you can share would be extremely beneficial and greatly appreciated.

Not campus edition

Aha, I understand, you're running the old "real" Blackboard software... the stuff that existed before they bought WebCT and renamed WebCT to Blackboard campus edition, just to confuse everyone. We do not use the software you are using, so sorry, I have no experience to relate to you on that. Run the extracts, and test, test, test!

The exports from Banner 7.4 are good... all you need it IntComp up to at least version 7.3, then audit students will show up in the learning management systems (Luminis / WebCT). However, there is some configuration that you must do for audit students... here is the text I see from our RPE:

Created new ACTIVE_ENROLLMENT_STATUS setting in goriccr. Modified icsfkcom (ldienroll event processing) and icsfkgex (grade exchange) packages, and icgorldi process, to replace stvrsts query with call to gb_integ_config.f_exists to determine which enrollments are active.

I know that we do need to put different parameter sets in for Luminis extracts versus WebCT extracts (in ICGORLDI). Read the docs on that, because not all parameter names/explanations are intuitive.

And finally, you will want to thoroughly investigate what happens with cross-listed sections. When sections are cross-listed in Banner, for seat reservation reasons, this affects how things show up in Luminis and WebCT (again, not sure about Blackboard). For example, when this is done in our Banner system, then each crosslisted section shows up as a separate course page in Luminis, with only a portion of the enrolled students showing up in each different course page. Ouch. Bad, very bad. We asked Sungard to fix this, and tried to pay them to do it, but they came back with "we're out of resources". So now we intercept the messages between Banner and Luminis, and we re-merge the crosslisted sections back into one course page by rewriting the messages and then re-publishing them to the LMB. This is complicated, so I have not posted a solution on LDN about it... contact me personally if you need to go this route.
