I've just got a Luminis IV migrated instance up and am looking at the integrated web mail and calendar client: Communications Express.
Is anyone else using this? If so, what are your issues?
So far, I've found that:
- The Email and Calendar icons both take you to the email tab in CommExp.
- Resizing the CommExp browser when in the Calendar takes you back to the Mail tab.
- Clicking the Calendar link in the Group Tools opens the CommExp client to the Mail tab(are you sensing a pattern here?) and doesn't auto select the Group Calendar.
- Clicking the Calendar link in the Course Tools doesn't work.

Communications Express client issues
We are running Luminis IV and have also noticed other issues in addition to the ones you have mentioned. We are running on a Windows platform. So far the only answers from SungardHE is that Sun is not releasing a patch for the Windows platform to fix the issues. We have found that most of the issues are resolved if you revert back to the Luminis Native client.
- Emails sent in HTML do not appear in the message body. The message body is blank. If you forward to an external email system (Yahoo, MSN, or use Outlook) the message body can be read.
- If you forward an email and do not type anything in the message body, the words "undefined" or "ndif ndif" will appear.
- If there is a URL in the email containing a word that begins with the letter "e", the "e" gets dropped. For example www.schoolname.edu is shown as www.schoolname.du. Obviously if you click the link it will not work. If you forward to an external email system (Yahoo, MSN, or use Outlook) the URL is displayed correctly.
- Colors are not formatted correctly. You pick one color and when the message is sent the color shows up differently.
- When composing a message and the email is sent, it will sometimes duplicate the message body twice. This sometimes happens when forwarding an email as well.
Hope this helps out.
More on problems
Thanks for the comments. I haven't even started to check out these 'functional' issues.
I've applied the latest hotfixes (IV.0.1.50) with few changes to the issues I've mentioned.
I think the resizing in Calendar going back to the Email tab was solved, but only for one browser.
Communications Express client
The commexpress problem is due to some bug from SUNGARD.....Please apply the latest patches and hostfix...for Luminis IV
What Patch and Hotfix number?
Which patch number are you referring to? Do you know what specific issues the patch resolves? Also is this for the Windows platform? Thanks for the information and help!
Customizations and hotfixes
Hotfixes:
We're up IV.0.1.50 which did resolve some of our issues.
I'll see if I can post our list of issues and where we are at with them.
Now about customizations:
Any luck with changing the look and feel of Communications Express? The Sun Comm Express 6.3 Customization Guide does not seem to be much help. The directories mentioned in this manual do not seem to be the ones that Sungard has used.
IV.0.2 and sun patch for Sun Messaging Server
It has been a while since the last comment of this thread. Hopefully someone still look into it.
We just installed 4.0.2 in our dev boxes, one unix box for resource, one unix box for mail, and other one for oracle, using Comm Express as email client. We still see some of these problems, incl. mail tab dominating on everything else. However, the html formatted message will show up correctly in Firefox, a little bit incorrectly in IE.
In upgrade guide of 4.0.2, it does recommend to apply sun patch 120228-23 to solve this IE problem. But I ran into postscript issue so I can't update the configuration successfully. Therefore, the authentication in the mail server is broken.
Anyone out there have similar experience on it and know the solution?
patch
I applied the patch and I added the local.service.proxy credentials to the email configuration for the sso to work, I did not install the config files generated by the patch because hte changes in the imta and other config files does not apply to my installation, the problem with the html is fixed for both browsers. Html email with pictures are finally working; the problem with the email tab still there, also I notice that if I send a targeted announcement via email using html format it does not display correctly.
