I'm interested in hearing what other schools are syndicating as RSS content on the Luminis Portal - are you using major news sources, or do you leave that option off?
Additionally, how are you making decisions about what to include as RSS content?
Along with many local feeds (student news, alumni news, etc) we use the following public feeds:
Channel Title Feed URL
---------------------------
Word of the Day http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoftheday/wotd.rss
Computer Virus Info http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/infofeed/tenalerts.xml
Clean Joke of the Day http://www.justcleanjokes.com/rss_feed.xml
CBC Top Stories http://rss.cbc.ca/topstoriesnews.xml
CNN Top Stories http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss
The Guardian Top News http://www.guardian.co.uk/rssfeed/0,,1,00.xml
Reuters Top News http://feeds.feedburner.com/reuters/topNews/
Yahoo News Top Stories http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories
As far as deciding, we just asked all of our portal team to come back with their recommendations for what were good news feeds, and then we had a team meeting to agree on the final list.
I tried to pull some CNN feeds into our Luminis portal, but they don't display cleanly. I get the headline & description, but then I get a bunch of raw HTML until the next headline. It looks like the reader is having trouble translating links to Email, Digg, etc. the story.
We've developed some categories and some syndicated content - was wondering if anyone had a formal policy. I'[m going to post our content list here soon - others might be interested.

Question about CNN feeds
Todd -
I tried to pull some CNN feeds into our Luminis portal, but they don't display cleanly. I get the headline & description, but then I get a bunch of raw HTML until the next headline. It looks like the reader is having trouble translating links to Email, Digg, etc. the story.
Any ideas why that's happening?
Thanks!
Mike
