At the opening session for Luminis, we were treated to a talk from Joshua Horner, the Senior Product Manager for Luminis. After talking about several Luminis case studies and alluding to past performance issues with the early releases of Luminis IV, he gave us a preview of the Product Roadmap.

Even if you did not get to go to Summit, you have probably seen some posts about Liferay - the new open source application server that Luminis is looking at for Luminis 5 - and the new emphasis on portlets over channels. There was also some welcome news about Luminis IV.1 and Luminis IV.2.

Luminis IV.1 will have enhanced identity management support - which means that it is moving toward becoming a good identity citizen. With multiple provisioning and authentication use cases, this version might help those of us who have patched together multi-tiered systems with Luminis-supplied EAS. There will also be a long-overdue rich text editor and improved data security in Group Studio, so that a user engaged in a sensitive conversation can shield his/her identity.

Perhaps the best thing that came out of his talk was his assurance that Luminis was not going away and that it would support both Banner 7 and Banner 8 throughout the Luminis IV product line. I have attached my notes which talk more about both of the Luminis IV releases that are planned, as well as the roadmap plans for Luminis 5.
