This finally got moved to defect status which means nothing will get done with it now. The problem is that IE will not open files that have been uploaded into a group. It will open text files just fine, non-text files it throws an error. Firefox will open the non-text file, but when it prompts to save or 'open with', it takes it a minute before the OK button is usable, probably because its downloading it.
Has anyone else had any trouble with this? I've gone through the support hoops, nothing they've suggested did anything. There are no errors in the luminis logs, I can see the files if I go to the groups folder. Permissions and owner is the same for text and non-text files. File sizes are small, tried a simple word doc that was 24K and it failed the download. I've tried various file types and nothing other then .txt will work.
I tried manually copying in files using ftp, and when I try opening the file in the browser, it says that the file isn't found in the database. So the files appear to be going into the database, just something is keeping it from opening.

webserver config and MIME types
At first glance I thought that you had a similar problem to us (on Luminis III.3.3)
When web.xml was correct, .doc files were sent as MIME type .gif
which meant that IE would have nothing to do with them! Having
an error in web.xml means that our content was all fine for both
IE and FF.
Of course Luminis III uses IPlanet whereas Luminis IV uses Apache
It still sounds like you are configured to restrict access to anything
with a MIME type though. Have you hunted around in .htaccess files
or tried serving a .doc straight from the webserver (there may be
different config for the Group Studio compared to the webserver
container - or the /cp servlet)

p.s. These thoughts may be of no help at all.
downloads over ssl
I didn't read the defect until just now, I arrived at the same issue that they did.
It appears that this could be the problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316431
We are using SSL, but I don't understand why no one else is having this problem.
Us too...
We have an open ticket with sungard. After applying SSL partitioning we can no longer access files in group tools via IE, but firefox is OK.
SSL partitioning
Hi
We have luminis 4.1.0.19 build 19 with ssl partitioning and we are experiancing the same issues with internet explorer and group studio plus the login process takes long time or to go from one screen to another, the performance is really bad. I do not see any errors in the log files or in the rdb log. Is there any way to disable this ssl partitioning ?
From Sungard....
Melissa,
Thanks for the access. I have removed the username and password from the Service Request for you. With the information I got from logging into your system I was able to setup a server here and duplicate the problem with IE7. I have opened a critical defect with development and they should be looking at it immediately. I will keep you informed of any updates I recieve.
Just as a sidenote, I was able to workaround the problem using a download manager utility (Orbit).
