Group Studio

There are a couple items I would like to see added/changed in GS -

Better Discussion Boards:
The current discussion board is less than practical. You can't see how many messages are in each one, or what's new, and you have to expand, and expand to view new posts. I think the board function should be modeled more like PHPBB (or LDN for that matter) where the entire thread is listed on the page, or a configurable number of posts with pagination at the bottom.
OR
An interface from GS to an OpenSource board like PHPBB.

Group channel:
I like the fact that group announcements display in the targeted announcements channel, however it would be FANTASTIC if a group could have its own channel that is managed from within GS. The group admin could update that channel (AND ONLY SEE THEIR GROUP'S CHANNEL)

More enhancements

Boy - where to start...

(note, that these comments apply to the functions within the "course" groups as well - if not in particular)

Discussion boards:

- ability to expand and view a particular thread.

- ability to print a particular thread, fully expanded, including who made the comment and when

- notification that something has been added to a discussion --- even a simple tiny icon next to the discussion title would be enough.

Overall group management:

- in the file/link/pictures functions, limit the upload functions to be accessible by instructors only. (yeah, I know you can set it up so that all uploads have to be accepted/approved by the leader, but it would be simpler if it wasn't there in the first place)

Email within the group:

- disallow students from using the "send all" box to send email to all the members of the class? (yes, I know that if the student wanted to, he could check each individual student - that's OK. this is to disallow spurious spamming).

Signiture

It would also be nice if the messages they send - auto attach a signiture on the bottom.

Since all group announcments appear in the general personal announcment channel... A message might read "We have a meeting tonight - Be there".. the Generic all in one personal announcment does not indicate at all what context this was sent.

This is an issue all around really.. but with Groups now sending announcments it is getting worse.

Shameless promotion

We too found this to be a serious problem which prompted me to create a new announcement channel. The channel adds to the details of the announcement a from line which is built based on the group/course name or the role that was used to target the user.

Another enhancement

As Bob Walker noted, at the recently held Canadian Banner User Conference, SCT's Rhett Burnham announced that a course tools rollover tool has been taken off the Luminis IV list.

This is required.
