I would love to be updated Sharda

Hello Sharda,

We are moving very slowly in that direction. As a first step, we are releasing some of the applications available through phone. At this point, we are in teh initial phases - so i do not have any more information on this. I would love to know how you are planning on making ur entire portal available via mobile phone

Thanks,

Keep me in the loop,

only basic features

Hi Shiva,

We are planning to start with very basic features to be available through phone as well. We want it to be simple with email and calendar available along with some of the campus info. But for Luminis email to be available through phone I am not very sure if some settings need to be changed at Luminis end. Do you have any idea about how to implement it? I would appreciate your insight regarding it.

Thank you,

Sharda

 Hi Shiva,

I saw your previous post on iPhone app development.

Can ypu please share some insight on how did you go about it? Is it that you developed an iPhone app or a mobile web site ( compatible with all mobile devices)?

Also what are the developement tools available or do we necessarily use iPhone SDK?

can you please put some light on it?

Thanks,

Sharda

Mobile development

If you want the maximum bang for your buck, you should write a mobile "view" of your Portal, and stay away from non-portable code such as the iPhone, Blackberry, etc SDKs.

One possible way to do this is to use a load balancer and have it read the browser HTTP request headers, and if it is a mobile browser, then redirect to an alternate site. Something should definitely be done about this, and in my opinion it should be the responsibility of the company who created the Portal.
