Channel to give Faculty Enrollment Data (in Excel)

I'm not sure I'm proceeding down tha right path here, but I'm trying to creat a channel that will give  faculty a report showing the enrollments for the classes they will be teaching.

SQL-wise this is easy, the difficult part is we want this in an Excel spreadsheet.  How are other universities doing this?  It doesn't have to be at the Luminis level so no matter what level you've pursued this at, I'd like to hear about it.

We have this capability

Our Web Developer wrote a page in PHP that a faculty member can log onto using Active Directory credentials (this is what we use for luminis login as well) and they can view their roster.  If they want to save to excel, our web developer wrote an process that will output to an excel format.  If you want, you can contact respond to this and I will give you his contact info and he may be willing to share.

I was looking at some old SETA presentations and found an example self-service page that gets me pretty far with what I need.  It became pretty clear that this functionality didn't belong in Luminis, but that Luminis should point the faculty to the right place.
