Uploading docs in targeted content channels?
I have a user who wants their channel content to link to several word documents, is there a way that they can upload the documents to the system and link to them from a channel? There is the file/image upload, but it doesn't seem to be working for files other then html and images. Any suggestions?

You'll need to do something custom. That file/image upload is for displaying the content of the upload in the channel.
If you don't have an intranet or ftp/scp server available for staff to upload content, you might consider having them use google docs and then provide a link to the google document inside the channel. Assuming its OK for the doc files to be public.
Or if you need security, you could have them use a group inside the portal, and upload the files. Assuming users of this channel are members of the group, they could provide links to the files inside a channel.

We already have another server, I just wanted to keep the content and documents on the same server, otherwise its really not a big deal. We do have several channels that have sub-sections as placeholders for images, so we can reference them in an html section. I just thought that maybe we could do the same with documents somehow. We tried to put files in a group but it was too confusing for non-group members to try and join the group to see the files.

Could you upload the files with the Group Studio. And then just copy the links from there and put them in the targeted content channel?
