Who is still running III.x
As has been said before, the TA function in Luminis 4.x has been improved to the point of non-usefulness. I am trying to find other solutions for MarComm (and they now understand that going back to III.3 is not going to happen), but I find I'm not remembering what the TA functions were like in III.x
Is anyone still running III.x? If so, can you send me or post some screen images of the TA functions, especially the part where you can select specific courses. Or, if possible, get me temporary access to a III.x test site where I can remind myself how TAs worked?
Many thanks
Michael

Old interface
Did you try using the old "Luminis 3 style" TA interface? I was told that it still exists in Luminis 4, although there are no direct links to it.

[does double take]
Hey Todd,
Say what??? The old interface exists? Now, that would be interesting to see.
And, in answer to the complaints that you and I (and presumably, others) have had to receive from our client base, why would we not just put that interface in and trash the 4.x interface?
hmmm...

What complaints are you experiencing? I haven't heard any from my users.
Complaints in the user interface...
Hi Jason,
I'll let my main client tell you as she put it to me in an email not too long ago:
=====
I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRY THIS UPGRADED FUNCTIONALITY TODAY AND FOUND IT TO BE...DYSFUNCTIONAL. AS AN EXAMPLE, I WANTED TO POST AN ANNOUNCEMENT FOR A SPECIFIC KPE CLASS AND WAS PRESENTED WITH 84 SEPARATE PAGES OF KPE COURSES TO SIFT THROUGH TO FIND IT. IN THE LAST VERSION, I WAS ABLE TO SCAN A SINGLE LIST AND IDENTIFY A COURSE IN ABOUT 5 SECONDS. I GAVE UP ON THIS ONE AS I DON'T HAVE AN HOUR TO VET 84 PAGES OF CONTENT FOR A SINGLE MESSAGE.
=====
There are other concerns about sending TAs via email (see bwalker's and toddtran's posts on Luminis 4 TAs and email), and the complexity of building boolean logic when all a non-techie wants to do is send an email to Computer Science students.
But, then, I haven't done a lot of testing, and things appear to have changed somewhat. So, now I'm trying to figure out what's old, what's new, and what's still ... dysfunctional.

fwiw - testing shows ...
to send a TA via email to 7 people took 5 minutes to process...
re ta complains
Ahh gotcha. My users have gotten pretty used to imported groups for classroom TA's, so they don't deal with that list.
For some reason though, and they do use it, no one seems to have a problem with the boolean logic interface. Come to think of it, people in IT/programming had more problems with it initially than the users.
the old LP3 interface running under LP4
if you do not want to spoil the FGAC and all the hard training in LP4 announcements, turn off this browser now...
Steps to enable the LP3 interface under Luminis 4.2.0
Note that we intend to deprecate this and work out how to use the proper announcement mechanism. I can generate a PDF with some more details, but I do not have the time to obfusticate it - so requests by email please: d.m.sergeant AT leeds dot ac dot uk

In case of fire ... use old code
I can hear the sungard developer now - "I can't believe they're making me release that crappy TA interface. I'm going to keep the III.x one around just in case..."
I mean - who here hasn't done that ? I have old code everywhere, I usually don't Easter-egg it though.
Derek, that's a great find for someone that still has to learn how to use Luminis <G>
Update
Well, some time has passed, and many discussions have occured with Sungard.
The short and skinny is that Sungard is working with us to develop a better way ot doing TAs in Luminis 4. We've had a couple of WebEx demos, and the latest one seems to be more effective than what we have to deal with today.
We're still probably weeks away from something that will be delivered, but Ben and Bruce have said they are planning to include the updated code with the 4.3 release (and a 4.2.1 hot fix).
In the meantime, they also gave us the http "address" for the version III TA interface - and I promptly wrapped it in a Targetted Content channel and hooked up the MarComm director with it. She is now smiling...
I'll post more when I have something that can be shown.
And, thanks for your help though this so far.

Sounds promising...I know our helpdesk is hating the IV interface. Would you be willing to share this "address" or instructions?

I would also appreciate the address of the Luminis 3 TA interface, if possible.

Reworked TA delivery code
Update: we've delivered a prototype of this code to Fraser Valley and have formally incorporated into the 4.2.3 release.
