Luminis and BlackBoard 9

We just had our first technical call with BlackBoard about the upgrade from CE8 to BlackBoard 9, which we are hoping to do later this year.  A couple of answers they gave as far is the Luminis integration raised some red flags.  I'm looking for any schools out there that have gone to BB 9, or are planning to in the near future.  My primary concerns are as follows:

- the built in Luminis/WebCt integration will no longer work, which we figured going in
- how to have courses in the 'My Courses' view in Luminis SSO link to BB 9 without this built in integration
- the changing of the LMB to fire events over to BB9
- other general headaches that I can't seem to remember at this point...

And while I'm at it, has anyone built a CPIP connector to BB9 they would be willing to share? Any and all information would be helpful.  Thanks in advance.

- Jonathan

Just Installed 9

We just installed BB9 in our test environment.  The docs indicate that it supports the IMS XML for importing courses, students, enrollments, etc.  However... I can't find how you go about that.  Anyone have any advice on how one goes about doing an XML import in Blackboard?

Banner - Blackboard 9 data integration from SunGard HE

There is no out of the box integration beteween Banner - Blackboard Academic suite, I believe there are issues around IMS XML version between what Banner supports and what Blackboard can accept

SunGard HE developed Banner - Blackboard 9 integration and available for implementation.

This integration supports Batch and real time integration and supports PERSON/GROUP/MEMBERSHIP events

SunGard HE also have Banner - Blackboard 9 integration.

Thanks,

interpretation of IMS

It is true that both Blackboard, Luminis, and Banner have different understandings of IMS. Fortunately all of these slightly differ from what the IMS documentation would lead you to believe.

We currently use IMS xml for both our Blackboard (version 7) and Luminis (version 4.1.2) data. This is predominantly for people (staff and students), groups (i.e. courses), and memberships thereof (i.e. staff course assignments, student course enrolments). We have a slightly different set of terminology (we call our courses modules).

Although I would hope that the Blackboard 9 xml expectations are similar to Blackboard 7, I have learnt that it is not wise to make that sort of assumption.

If you need to see samples of the Luminis and Blackboard xml I could probably generate a set of test files. I am not totally familiar with the Blackboard snapshot commands so do not blame me if you get your datasource keys in a twist.

Luminis Portal to Blackboard SSO Tools

Hello,

To configure a SSO between your Luminis portal and your version 9.x of Blackboard Learn, you'll need the following free SSO tool:

***********
The AutoSignOn Building Block allows an institution to implement a Single Sign-on (SSO) solution on the Blackboard Learn Platform. Once authenticated by a trusted source (a campus portal, for example), a request can be made to the AutoSignOn Building Block to automatically log the user into the Learn Platform without having to enter their username and password. More information, admin guide, and download instructions can be found at: http://projects.oscelot.org/gf/project/autosignon/frs/
************

If you need additional assistance, Blackboard's Consulting Team can deploy this tool with your assistance, so contact your sales rep for more information.

Luminis to Bb SSO

Here you go ;)

Luminis to Bb SSO

I've installed the AutoSignOn Building Block, does anyone have a portlet or jsp that creates the links in Luminis for students to do SSO to BB? What approaches are users using, a jsp? portlet? I have an old portlet from WebCT SSO/uPortal that I can retrofit, but I'd like to hear from someone who's done this with BB and Luminis. Any advice? Thanks much!

CAS

We are using a CAS solution, so I built a CAS client to verify the user's identity and perform the SSO using that building block. It's built in ASP.NET and runs on a separate server from both Luminis and the CAS.

can also achieve sso to Blackboard using the GCF framework

Depending on what authentication infrastructure you have there is more than one route to go

Yes, use the Building block,

or write your own GCF script

or use one of the GCF scripts from Lumdev

or use CAS (or Shibboleth) to authenticate to all your systems. (Luminis Blackboard etc)
