LDI Integration with WebCT Vista and password reset on webct vista
We currently are using the luminis data integration system that updates luminis and blackboard when a student is admitted to the college or a new employee is hired. The live integration uses the standard sungard setup.
The issue we have is that when a person event is fired (which creates or appends changes to their Luminis and WebCT Vista account), the password is reset back to the default as identified by Banner on WebCT. The luminis password is not reset and remains their current password.
Has any other schools run into this issue and found a setting on the WebCT Vista side that tells WebCT to not reset a password if the account already exists?
We have contacted Blackboard and they say there is no server side setting to prevent password change when using Luminis Data integration or when a new XML file is uploaded using the Sungard ICGORLDI application to create the XML batch import.

We were dealing with this exact same issue in Dec.
And Blackboard told us the same thing.
We had a false start on the solution...wherein we stopped sending the Banner PIN in the LDI person events. This caused new Luminis accounts to have no password though, so we put it back.
The actual solution (for us) was to set up Blackboard to hand off authenication to Active Directory. That way it doesn't matter what Blackboard does with the password - we don't use the Blackboard internal accounts anymore. Everyone logs in to Blackboard using their AD account.
LDAP does the trick too
You can also point it to work with luminis LDAP if that is your main source of Authentication, we determined that was the best deal since we did not have a reset utility to passwords in AD, we pointed back to Luminis LDAP and used this LDAP to also be the source for WEBCT.
you just need to be careful when setting up the parameters in WEBCT to use pdslogin instead of uid. I guess UID is interpreted to be the immutable identifier, so it will not work if you don't change this parameters.
