Customize pages where roles are selected
I got a request to customize all the pages in Luminis where a user has to select roles. The customization consists of adding a link to a page with short descriptions of the various roles. This is needed because some of our end users get confused (for example) as to whether "admin" refers to system administrators or University executive-level administrators. I'm hoping that (as in Luminis 3) this is just a matter of modifying particular .jsp and/or .xsl files (some in archives, probably), but how do I find the correct files?

Why would you have users selecting roles? Wouldn't it be easier to have the roles automatically assigned and fed to luminis via Banner or whatever your main account system happens to be?
And in terms of the custom view for roles, I think it is way easier to create an entire tab specific to a role(s). So employee+faculty+administrator would have a specific home tab, and student role would have an another home tab, rather than having a single home tab that has parts that change based on role.

You've misunderstood my question. End users need to select roles when submitting a group request (to indicate which roles can see the group) and when sending a targeted announcement (to specify the audience) and probably something else I'm forgetting. I'm wondering whether anyone has a list of places where role selection shows up.
On further investigation it appears that the "filtergroupsmanager" channel is involved somehow, but it seems like a very generic framework and I don't know where to find its configuration files.
Roles
You're right, there are a few places where people can ask themselves "what do all these roles mean?" We have customized the Group Request page, and added a link to our FAQs just under the place where it says "Browse Control". That link goes here:

Although this FAQ does not detail all roles, and what those roles mean, at least it does explain about restricting new groups to roles.
With the targeted announcements, announcers can only see the small set of roles that they have been granted permission to send announcements to, so there isn't much of a concern. However we do have questions like "does the Student role include graduate students as well as undergraduate students?" I would like to be able to have a page we can link to that lists all roles and a description of all these roles, but we haven't taken the time to build that yet.
