I've reworked the message boards a little, trying to keep from modifying the code too much.  Stripped some of the duplicated data out of them, and modified the style a little.  There are some properties files that had some of the field data, however modifying them didn't do anything.  So I had to hardcode in some of the text.  I've included all the files that you need to replace as well as screenshots.  I didn't get too wild with the style, I just wanted something that was cleaner and easier to use.

I created the zip file, broken out into directories with a how-to file in each one. 
The main parts are the jsp files, there are several new images, css additions, and a modified jsf file.  I've also included several screen shots to give a before and after.  If you create a backup of each of the affected directories, you can drop them in or replace them with the backup.  There is no need for compiling.  I've also been able to drop them in and out without restarting the webserver, however it might take a few minutes to refresh itself if you choose not to.

Another thing I've modified is the wording of the message boards.
"Topics" have been changed to "Forums".
"Threads" have been changed to "Topics".
I did keep some reference to Threads, since a Topic can have threads.
