Luminis upgrades/patches - best practices for documentation/communication
Hi,
I'm curious about what other schools do for documenting and communicating changes to end users, as a result of Luminis upgrades and patches. Are there any standards or best practices for the same? Do you just use the release notes or document changes in a more user friendly way?
Any input/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shyam

Communications
We have a communications person here, and she updates a blog, which is then fed via RSS/Javascript to our Luminis login page. That way people know what is new in our portal.
For major upgrades, we'll send out an email to all users with a link to the details. See here for an example from last year: http://www.usask.ca/paws/channels/communications/
We try not to send them Sungard docs, those are usually very technical, and not for end users, with one exception of the Help content (which one wouldn't email to people anyway) and the Course/Group Studio Leader manual (which they can download from within their course/group).

re: Communications
Todd,
I happened to visit the usaska.ca blog page and I'm interested in implementing something similar at our uni. to communicate changes in our applications/software to end users. I have a few questions:
1. Which tool do you use for your blogs?
2. Does only one person update your blog? Is there any associated work-flow for updating content/approving content etc. for blogs?
3. Which tool do you use for creating your RSS feeds and how is your blog tied to the RSS feed ? In other words, how does updating your blog update your RSS page? How do all these fit together?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Shyam
Blog/RSS feed
Todd,
Would you mind sharing some details of your blog/RSS feed implementation. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Shyam

1. Which tool do you use for your blogs?
- It's Moveable Type. You can read about the service here:
http://www.usask.ca/its/services/webpage_hosting/blogs/
2. Does only one person update your blog?
- Yes, just one person, our portal content and communcations specialist.
Is there any associated work-flow for updating content/approving content etc. for blogs?
- No, it's all handled by that one person.
3. Which tool do you use for creating your RSS feeds and how is your blog tied to the RSS feed? In other words, how does updating your blog update your RSS page? How do all these fit together?
- We use a local copy of Feed2JS: http://feed2js.org/
