IE Cumulative Security Patch causing problems in lum 4.2?

We are having people reporting an immediate time-out from the luminis system in Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8. The behavior began on Aug 12, and a cumulative security patch for Internet Explorer went out on Aug 11 for IE 6, 7 and 8. Is anyone else noticing this?

Symptoms are inability to see images, and following banner links displays the "system time out" (timedout2.jsp) message and returns them to the luminis login screen.

Sungard is saying they haven't had any issues, and this doesn't appear to be a wide-spread epidemic at our university but we are definitely seeing documented instances of this occurring. Any other schools have any similar incidents?

timeouts

Yes. I had one user report it and for a quick fix I was having her use firefox instead of IE. Since nobody else was having the problem I haven't looked into it. However, I just asked her about it and she said another person in her area is having the same thing happen. We're having a similar problem with another system that just started recently as well. I think it's been happening a couple of weeks though and not just last week.

possible solution

Through trial and error our system admin found the problem. It is some incompatibility with a GoogleChromeBHO that was recently updated. The file was apparently updated on August 13th. After disabling that addon and restarting IE the portal loads correctly. He confirmed that disabling the plugin also fixed the problem on another computer. He had installed google chrome some time ago and had not used it in a while, so it must do some type of auto-updating behind the scenes. I don't know if that will help others, but it definitely solved our problem.
