Just thought I would share with you our little group...

We have a team of 4 people in our Web Services group here at UNC Charlotte http://www.uncc.edu/

Manager of Web Services (me)
Coldfusion and graphic design, switching over to PHP as much as I can from a cost stand point. Mostly coordinate with campus on web standards, work with PR on new branding direction, and about a 100 other things.

Windows Hosting Lead
We have Server admin manage our hardware on the web hosting side... but We have a great resource inhouse that does also do a huge amount to management of the infrastructure side, from failover, DBA admin, Frontpage management, windows support, the list is large here as well. It is a full time job keeping windows hosting available across campus.

Luminis Lead
We have a dedicated admin of Luminis who is swamped with supporting all of the Luminis troubleshooting ontop of our migration plan to Platform III.3.3 this august where we drop SIS+ and WebCT and plug in Banner 6 and Vista. LDI management is coordinate with the other system admins.

UNIX Lead
We have a new hire (1 year now) that is our UNIX guru. We are brining up UNIX hosting (on Solaris.. whish I had the choice for something else) but also provide support for Luminis and Hosting sides.

Overall we are trying to get excited about the portal again (2 years old now) and trying to introduce new service like Employee Layout, AD remote EAS, CAS auth, and overall layout changes. We hope to deploy the Web-Tier POST August as well as switch our students over to OWA this fall.

We tried to hire a Fifth person but could not find someone with either design or development support to help us with our Luminis improvement… and we did not want to just get a warm body, so we are very short staffed. I am trying to get that position again if available… but with three rounds of interviews.. we were very disappointed in the selection. Perhaps it will change soon.

Can I hear what others have on staff... what type of person would you hire (Skill set wise) to contribute to Luminis Development?

Our Staff

We have 3 developers and one security officer on Banner.

We are in process of rolling out Luminis. We have made it through Phase one with a pilot product to a select few users. Right now I am the only resource dedicated to Luminis. I also hold the Web Tailor responsibilities for Banner Self Service. I only started here 6 months ago but my background is Coldfusion and application design and development for the web...much like yourself. Curious if you have been able to accomplish integration between luminis and custom CF apps. I know your moving away from it but any advice would be appreciated. As for additional skill sets like most web developers I dabble in just about everything but my strong suite is CF and.

Just lil ole me

Wow, you have more than one person? Here, it's just me that supports our web stuff (website authoring/editor training, web servers maintenance, Blackboard sys admin, Luminis sys admin/promo coordinator, Banner Self Service/WebTailor tech support). We have our sys admin/db admin who takes care of the OS updates on our servers, and one programmer who has Java experience that I've got access to, but in general I'm the one who has to figure out why the application dies suddenly or how to roll in the latest patches/updates for our web-based applications.

Are you still looking for that fifth person? - I could see myself at North Carolina having grown up on the East Coast ;)

we're just starting

Hello fellow North Carolinian. I'm over at ECU. We're just starting to look at what Luminis can offer us. We current have our own portal developed in CF. Of course, being a primarily CF group we're very interested in our ability to develop CF applications for Luminis. Interesting to hear that your moving away from CF for PHP.
