Using gmail within the Luminis Environment
We are pursuing the feasibility of this option. I noticed this post is dated back in September. Has anyone since then explored the use of gmail via Luminis?
Thanks,
Glen
gmail
We are also looking into this option. I haven't had time to sit down and go over their api but I have been told it exists. Eventually, I will get there...
The thing that will need to be tested is password syncronization between the two systems. Hopefully Luminis will prompt about the password mismatch and ask the user to enter their new credentials so Luminis knows them going forward.
Gmail
Well, it looks like this topic comes up every couple of months =). Did anyone do the actual research?
I tried messing with the settings of the ldap pdsEmailAccount field, hoping either the second variable or the unknown variable was secure IMAP, but no luck (pdsEmailAccount: {encrypted name}, {pop=1; IMAP=2},{outgoing server},{email address},{username},{keep on server=1; delete=0},{unknown}).
Any thoughts or suggestions?

In case you're interested, there is an off-the-shelf solution that integrates seamlessly with Luminis: http://www.sxip.com/sxip_access_google
We've successfully deployed the solution with a college in California.

Gmail integration with Banner and Luminis
Hello,
SungardHE Services have developed Integration with Google and it handles following functionality.
1. Provisioning of account in batch and real time mode to Google email
2. Single Sign on from Luminis to Gmail
3. Uses existing infrastructure in place, not addtional hardware or licensed software is needed.
4. upgrade plans include to convert this service to utilize Banner Identity management mechanism to implement UDC identity management. upgrade plans to have this service to work with LPV(more plug and play mode)
5. Make Luminis aware of gmail address of gmail and group studio and other applications will make use of this.
6. Banner is made aware that there is gmail for student.
and much more functionality....
Implemented at large institution and went live(well tested solution)

Rolled our own
We rolled our own Java apps, using the Google Provisioning API (for GMail) and JDBC (for Banner), to create and delete student accounts in GMail automatically during the student application process.
