List of supported Oracle versions?

Does anyone know if there is a list of officially supported versions of Oracle for Luminis IV? Can I keep using 9i? Is 11g still too new?

Thanks,

Kevin

Group Tools Version 2.0 (Contains Group Activity and Group Request channels)

Description

Group Activity
Image of the Group Activity channel in action

This channel will list all groups and courses a user is a member of. For each group/course if there has been recent activity (defined as activity in the last 7 days) they will be provided with a link that will take them directly to that new content.

Luminis IV and database restarts - The answer.

This information provided here for archival and documentation purposes

The answer as to whether Luminis IV could recover from a database restart was 'sort-of', with conflicting responses. It ended up as defect #1-3J67MJ, now resolved. The resolution appears in the documentation for the IV.1.0 upgrade.

Here's a summary of what I found out myself and from the RC:

Custom Luminis API

As promised at Summit 2008, attached here is the code and documentation for the U of S custom Luminis API. This API exposes portal data to your application developers.

I'm not sure if the installation instructions are complete; if you do try to install this API, and you stumble on anything, please let me know. I'd like to make the instructions as good as possible.

Thanks,
Todd

A new Group/Course Activity channel arriving soon

Figured as I had not posted anything for a while I might as well post a status type update. During Luminis Idol it was pointed out that the Group/Course Activity channel I created back in 2005 as popular as it was no longer runs nicely. (For those unfamiliar with the premises behind this channel go here http://www.lumdev.net/node/426).

This was most apparent when Michael was able to demonstrate during Idol:

  1. His home tab took forever to load
  2. The Group/Course Activity channel died with a nice 'Timed out' error

Changing the USERID - Groups

I was approached yesterday by a desktop support person to let me know that the President's assistant had a name change. Our luminis logins are first initial last name, so when someone changes their last name due to a marriage or otherwise, their network login changes.

Connecting Luminis to another database

Hi everyone!

Has anyone tried to connect to another database than the one configured?... ok.. I am asking to much in one question... let me explain the scenario here.

BANNER SSB from Luminis (How to handle XSS Attacks)

How have other schools combatted the XSS (Cross-Site Scripting) Patches for Apache (mod_rewrite) for Banner Self-Service, the problem is widespread when doing SSO from Luminis, we are getting a forbidden error, also an Error when trying to access the Academic Services Channel, this is when the PIN is out of sync in luminis.

When we manaully change the pin to match the Luminis LDAP password, evrythign seems to work without Forbidden issues, is anyone out there experiencing the same issues?

Error on Migration

I receive the error below. Any one else get this? or know how to solve it?

Migrating SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 for Luminis/uPortal Databases

We are running Luminis 3.3.3.79 and using SQL Server 2000 as the back-end for the luminis and uPortal databases. The SQL Server instance will be reaching end of service in late November, so I’m exploring replacement options for the server/database.

Has anyone migrated from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 or from SQL Server 2000 to Oracle for the luminis/uportal databases? If so, what migration issues did you encounter? Also, is there a defined method for the migration? And lastly, are there solid reasons to consider Oracle over SQL Server? Any recommendations are appreciated.
