Preferred IDE for Luminis Portal Development

Forums:

Good Morning Gents,
Is there a preferred IDE for coding in Luminis. In reading about it's architecture I understand this portal to be coded in Java which although it has been sometime I am comfortable with the language, but back then I used JCreator. In my last developer role I supported and developed for a SharePoint 2003 and 2007 environment.

Thanks,

Luminis Version:

I have always found Eclipse to be sluggish and memory hog. For luminis portlet development I use Intellij IDEA. I can compile my portlet and deploy it to a test luminis instance in my laptop with the hit of a button. The Liferay website has a wiki page on how to setup Intellij IDEA for Liferay development.

Thanks cedenoj... I will definitely check this IDE out.

You might also consider netbeans http://netbeans.org/

I found it to be a little more polished than eclipse for jsr-168/268 portlet development.

But if you're familiar with the eclipse world and how to set it up, it works well also. It is way more customizable and has a much larger user base and plugin repository.

That said, you don't need to rely on java portlets for Luminis development (unless you want to) Between the inline frame channels, web proxy channels, and remote html reference targeted content channels, you can pretty much do whatever you want, in any way you want.

We have channels that are written in cfml (coldfusion) and I know that many schools populate content via php.
