using luminis for admissions decision letters

Submitted by garc123 on Thu, 05/15/2014 - 11:48

Hi all,
Our school is interested in using the luminis portal as a vehicle to deliver admissions decisions to our accepted applicants.
Has anyone out there done anything similar? Anything you could share on how complex it was to build and code that solution would be really helpful.
We are on Banner 8 and Luminis 4.2
Thanks in advance!

Building a portal on new LP5.1

Submitted by zy001 on Fri, 10/11/2013 - 10:06

Hi guys,
Today, I am starting this block to record and share my journey of building and customising a new LP5.1 platform with all of you.

The goal:
To build a new dev LP5.1 with highly customised web interface, automated user provisioning process with external AD/LDAP/IM application, and highly independent service oriented portal framework to support portlet channels (based on current own framework and uPortal / JSP modle 2 channels).

Problems emailing class from Faculty Dashboard

Submitted by webham on Thu, 07/25/2013 - 13:48

We’re currently on Luminis 4.3.0.81. We recently completed upgrading to Office 2010, Windows 7, and IE9. Now we’re having a problem where faculty cannot email certain class lists using the icon in the Faculty Dashboard channel. It should open the Outlook email with the addresses populated; however, for classes where the number of characters that will appear in the address field is approaching 500, all that appears is a blank web page (url is about:blank). It works successfully for smaller class lists. And it works successfully all the time from the self-service class list page.

Group Studio Activity Channel

Submitted by ricem on Mon, 11/19/2012 - 16:27

We are thinking about making all our groups hidden groups and I would like to know if there is a way to have the Group Studio Activity Channel automatically recognize which groups a person is a member. The user wouldn't need the option to necessarily choose which groups to monitor. I believe this is how the Course Studio channel works.

Also, is there a way to base group membership on role (i.e. if you have X role then you are automatically a member of X group). I will create custom roles in Banner and the portal and populate the members.

Beware of My Courses and Registration

Submitted by jtboehm on Mon, 11/05/2012 - 15:31

Over the past couple semesters we have had performance issues during heavy load times, specifically during registration.

It is very common for students to wait until midnight to register (as soon as their registration window opens) and the competition for classes becomes more intense as we reach the freshman registration windows.

A year or two ago, we combined some content in our portal that saw the MyCourses channel added to the same tab as the registration tools. As it turns out, this is a bad idea, since MyCourses is very LDAP intensive.

wi_ssmenu self-service channel no longer rendering

Submitted by rcarvell on Fri, 02/10/2012 - 15:35

Hi,

In our Luminis IV 4.3.0.81 test environment, our WI-SSMENU channel stopped rendering. The channel no longer contains the link for self-service. I have deleted the channel from the tab and added it back, stop and started our luminis test server. I don't see any errors in the cp.log.

Nothing that I know of has changed. Any ideas why this may have stopped working and why it continues not to work?

Thanks,
Regina

Grade Book for Luminis

Submitted by rhughes on Tue, 08/23/2011 - 11:53

Has anyone incorporated a grade book into Luminis? This is the biggest missing component of Course Studio.

Some schools use Blackboard/Moodle/Sakai for every course so faculty can post grades for assignments/quizzes/tests. We only use Blackboard for on-line courses to keep our licensing costs manageable.

I asked this back in 2009 and got no responses. Hopefully someone has figured it out by now. Has anyone incorporated the Sakai/Moodle grade book component only in Luminis?
