The CodeStorm Concept

Submitted by admin on Tue, 08/25/2009 - 09:00

I posted an article  to announce a collaboration effort I'm calling CodeStorm.  You can read more about it here.
We've already had some great ideas about possible projects to collaborate on.
One that has had a little more activity than the others is searching
I'll create a new thread called Portal Search and we can further discuss how to achieve this successfully since people have shyed away from this function.

Help! Chrome Update and Luminis IV

Submitted by blackwellbs on Mon, 01/30/2017 - 12:52

Google pushed out a Chrome update last week (version 56.0.2924). As Chrome auto-updates, we have many reports of Luminis IV not working. The user gets:

Sorry, but uPortal encountered an error that is preventing it from rendering. The error must be corrected by system administrators.

My Chrome install was still sitting at the previous version and worked fine. I manually updated to this latest version and sure enough I get the error as well. Clearing cache or removing/re-installing does nothing.

Anyone have some recommendations? The error in cp.log is:

Using 8 digit birthdate for password?

Submitted by juliehober on Mon, 10/05/2015 - 10:57

Is anyone using 8 digit birth date for the students initial password? We currently use 6 which the info is set over from Banner I need to change it to 8 but all the documentation I'm seeing from Ellucian says No to make it a random password instead. Random may be more secure but it doesn't work for us right now! Any suggestions?

Luminis IV add action that utilizes some kind of "onOpen"

Submitted by fontnest on Tue, 09/22/2015 - 10:10

I have a request from our Institutional Effectiveness department to add a line to the "Welcome John Doe, you are currently logged in" display at the top of the Home tab in Luminis.

I don't have any idea where to hack into that operation that obviously grabs the User ID at login and brings in the name to display the message.

But even if I did, I'm not sure how I could "hitch a ride" on that process, connect to the banner database and find the Major/Concentration and add it to the displayed message.

Unsupported Browser Message after 4.3 Upgrade

Submitted by rdenyar on Fri, 07/03/2015 - 14:55

We just moved to 4.3 to upgrade to the supported version before our migration to 5.2, but now we're seeing a warning when users try to access the login page from IE.

The message states that there's a Browser Problem and suggests to use a supported browser. I'm all for using Chrome or Firefox, but the only issue is the message suggests using IE when on Windows...

Does anyone happen to know how I can disable this message?

Using logged-in User in a Post action

Submitted by fontnest on Tue, 06/23/2015 - 17:27

I am NOT a jsp person, but I managed some time ago to find the jsp page in Luminis 4 where the Person manager grabs the logged-in user information to pass as needed.

I've used this in a few instances, customizing it as needed, but now I need to grab the ID, append some furnished items and Post it to a url for an SSO operation to a third party online application (Maven "Alcohol Training" - I never needed that in college-).
