Luminis 5 Performance

Submitted by squidgravy on Fri, 12/11/2015 - 17:08

We just went live with Luminis 5 about 2 weeks ago. Has anyone experienced any performance issues with the portal? We are seeing (at times) the login process taking upwards of a minute or more to complete the login process to Luminis 5. In addition to that moving from page to page can (at times) take 15 + seconds each. Interesting to note though, once the browser has cached everything in the portal we are able to move throughout the portal with ease.

Announcements submitted by email

Hello,

We are working on implementing Luminis 5.2.1 (on LifeRay 6.1.2.0 EE).

One of our former highly-paid consultants (how do I get a gig like that?) described to the higher-ups on our steering committee an out-of-the-box feature of Luminis that I have yet to locate.

He described a portlet that can instantly display announcements sent to it via email.

Right now, our institution heavily uses mailing lists (Listserv) for mass communication. The result is many users—especially students—ignore and mark a lot of that traffic as spam.

Adding security to pages hosted on the portal server

Submitted by rdenyar on Thu, 11/19/2015 - 08:30

Forums:

We have a couple pages saved within the theme folder that our CMS has access to allowing the content owners to make updates. Having this ‘local’ folder is working perfectly for us except for one drawback. It would be preferred to require users to login to the portal before being allowed to view these hosted pages.

Has anyone ever looked into securing pages hosted on the portal? I was hoping to be able to use Tomcat filtering to confirm the user was authenticated via CAS before serving up the pages.

RSS feed on CAS login page

Submitted by vrevich on Fri, 11/13/2015 - 10:04

Forums:

We are looking into posting message from RSS feed on CAS login page. If message exists in the feed then we would display it on the page in . Otherwise, if feed is empty we would load CAS login page without message from RSS feed.
Has anyone implemented something similar with RSS feed on CAS login page?

Thank you,
Victor

So a little bit of background on me (before you judge my post). I am new to the Ellucian world. I have been tasked with looking at implementing/administrating and ultimately developing for the Luminis 5 portal. I don't have much system experience out side of maintaining a blackboard instance (LMS) along with some web development. Anyways I'm hoping to blog my trek through the Ellucian products and hopefully someday help someone that is also just starting.

Banner Custom Roles

Submitted by kerryf on Wed, 11/04/2015 - 18:00

Forums:

For our targeted announcements in Luminis 4 we would usually export a popsel from Banner then import into Luminis (cptool import segment). The person sending the announcement could then select the imported group as the target audience. I don't believe we can do this in Luminis 5, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

We have begun to create custom Banner roles to use instead of popsels. Are any of you doing the same thing, or have done this already in Luminis 4?

-Kerry
